Much of the main concentration of ongoing development was for the champions. They were the funding mechanism of the game: a free rotation of champions are featured weekly, with champions purchasable for cash or merit points earned from playing the game. Cosmetic costume changes for champions were sold for cash only.
The initial champions were built and textured to match the proposed comic style of the game. Champions had variable thickness black outlines, strongly defined dark shadows, and individual rimlighting, in colors appropriate to the champion's base palette. Proportions were less realistic than the later characters.
Deadshot was an upcoming character for Infinite Crisis prior to the announced closure. To the left is his base model, followed by his Cowboy costume and his Gangster costume. Models were modeled in ZBrush, normalmaps generated with XNormal, lowres polygon models generated in Maya, and base texture maps generated with Photoshop.
In-game character models are generally between 8-12k polygons, with a 1024 diffuse map, and 512 normal- and specmaps. Some characters might also have small environment maps. These are the in-game assets, rendered in an external renderer.
Four unreleased characters for Infinite Crisis: Gorilla Grodd, Darkseid, Black Canary, and Constantine.
